Triton TPT125 vs DeWalt DW733

Occasional boards, or twenty a day?

Same maximum width, same job, very different duty cycles — and a price gap that depends more on which country you are in than on which machine you choose. Neither surfaces a board, so both need something else alongside them.

A tick marks the better answer on that line only. Counting ticks does not decide the page — the two verdicts below do, because these machines answer different questions.

Which of the two, for which shop

Buy the TPT125

Buy the Triton at the British price. €289 for 317 mm (12.5 in) of thicknessing capacity is unmatched here, and for occasional work the 1,100 W motor is only a limit if you take heavy cuts at full width.

Buy the DW733

Buy the DeWalt if the machine is part of how you earn. The extra 700 watts is about consistency at full width on the twentieth board, not speed on the first.

What comes up most often

Neither one surfaces — what does that mean in practice?

A thicknesser references the face lying on its bed, so feeding in a cupped or twisted board gives you a thinner cupped board. You need a way to make one face flat first: a jointer, a hand plane, or a router sled. This is the single most common misunderstanding about portable thicknessers.

Will either avoid snipe?

No. Snipe — the shallow dip at each end of a board — happens because the workpiece is held by two rollers in the middle of the cut and one at each end. Feed a sacrificial board nose-to-tail with the real one, or cut your stock long and trim the ends.
