The best track saws for 2026

A track saw is how you break down a full sheet without a panel saw and without help. We compare cut quality on melamine, rail rigidity, riving knife behavior on the plunge, and the question that decides your next ten years of purchases: which rail system you are buying into.

The models we recommend

  1. Einhell TE-PS 165

    1,200 W · 165 mm (6.50 in) · two 1 m (3 ft) rails included

A plunge saw with two meters of aluminum rail for €153 — and no barcode, so we cannot tell you whether it is sold in your country.

Best for: Breaking down sheet goods occasionally, in Germany, on a small budget

    7.0/10

  2. Scheppach PL75

    1,600 W · 75 mm (2.95 in) depth · 1,400 mm (55.1 in) rail included

A 1,600 W plunge saw with a 1.4 meter (4.6 ft) rail in the box for €200 — the cheapest complete track saw system we have found.

Best for: Breaking down sheet goods and worktops on a budget, without a second purchase

    8.3/10

    ≈ $405

  3. Makita SP6000J

165 mm (6.50 in) · Makpac case · six markets

The professional plunge saw that is cheaper in France than in Germany, and the one whose rails are shared with the widest range of machines.

Best for: Someone buying into a system rather than buying one saw

    7.7/10

    ≈ $570

  4. Triton TTS1400

    1,400 W · plunge · six markets

A 1,400 W plunge saw at €260 in Germany that resolves on all six Amazon stores — the cheapest system here you can buy anywhere.

Best for: A first track saw where the rail ecosystem matters less than the price

    7.5/10

  5. Makita DSP600 PT2J1

2 × 18 V · kit with two 5.0 Ah packs, twin charger and rail

A cordless plunge saw sold as a complete kit at almost exactly the same price in four countries — and not sold at all in two more.

Best for: A Makita 18 V workshop that wants sheet goods broken down away from a socket

    8.5/10

  6. Festool TS 55 F-Plus Master Edition

Festool · Systainer · the reference system

The saw the whole category is measured against, in a Master Edition Systainer — and the one whose accessory range genuinely justifies the ecosystem argument.

Best for: A workshop already inside the Festool system, or one committing to it deliberately

    8.1/10

For which need, in track saws

Breaking down panels single-handed

On a 3 m (10 ft)² panel it is the saw that comes to the wood, not the other way round. The motor has to hold the cut over the whole length of the rail without weakening.

Scheppach PL75

Getting into guided cutting

The rail changes everything, far more than the machine. The most affordable model in the aisle with a decent rail makes cuts no hand-held circular saw matches.

Scheppach PL75

Cutting without a cloud of dust

Cutting melamine with no extraction fills the room with fine dust in three meters. The port diameter and the stated capture rate decide what stays in the air.

For whom, within track saws

Panels and furniture
The natural ground: cutting melamine or plywood to size, cleanly, without a table saw. The rail replaces an entire workshop for this use.
Site work and fitting
Plunge cutting lets you start in the middle of an installed panel, which no conventional circular saw does cleanly.
Workshop with no space
A plunge saw and two rails take up the space of a suitcase and cover most breakdown needs. It is the answer for cramped workshops.

What each advantage costs, on track saws

Long rail against storage
A 1.4 m (5 ft) rail crosscuts most panels; two joined are needed for the length, and they take up room. Well-set joints do not deviate; badly set ones leave a step.
A mains plunge saw does not fade at the end of a cut
Battery frees you from the cable on site and caps out on autonomy over a day of breaking down sheets. Corded never stops and gets in the way in the middle of a panel.
Closed system against universal
Rails are not all compatible between brands. Choosing a system means choosing its rails and accessories for a long time.

Before buying track saws

Does a plunge saw replace a table saw?

For breaking down panels, largely, and often better. For ripping narrow pieces in series, no: the table saw stays faster and safer.

Do I need a rail per length of cut?

Or two rails joined. The joint needs careful setting: misaligned, it leaves a visible step in the middle of the cut.

How do I avoid tear-out?

The rail's splinter guard handles the top face; for the underside you need a sacrificial board or a fine-toothed blade. Both faces clean requires both.

Is the cut really adjustment-free?

The rail gives the line, but the squareness of the base and the depth still have to be checked. A base slightly out of square gives a bevelled edge invisible until assembly.

Can I plunge into the middle of a panel?

It is the function that gives the machine its name: position the rail, plunge, advance. Watch for the kick at the moment of plunging.

What blade for melamine?

Fine teeth and a high speed. A ripping blade tears the coating whatever the quality of the rail.

Is extraction effective on these saws?

Far better than on a conventional circular saw, thanks to the closed shroud. It is one of the rare portable tools where extraction genuinely catches most of it.

Do two tracks join without a step?

With connecting bars and careful setting, yes, but the join stays the weak point of a three-meter cut. A single track of the right length avoids the question.

What to remember about track saws

The track saw is the best answer to breaking down panels in a workshop with no space. The rail and the blade matter more than the machine, and compatibility between brands deserves checking before committing to a system.

A quick look at track saws

  • Motor: 1,200 to 1,600 W, on 4 of the 7 models.

Track saws, side by side

There is no table here, and the reason is in the listings. The figure published most often across these 7 products is motor, given by 4 of them — short of the four in five a column needs to compare rather than to display gaps. Each product page says what its own maker published.
