The best circular saw blades for 2026

The blade changes a saw more than the saw changes the cut. We cover tooth count and grind for each job, kerf width, and the compatibility detail that catches everyone out on imported blades: bore diameter, which is 30 mm (1.18 in) across most of Europe and not elsewhere.

For which need, in saw blades

Fitting a specific machine

The diameter has to match the machine exactly: it governs rim speed and usable depth of cut.

Bosch Expert for Multi Material 305 × 30, 96T

Cutting panels without tear-out

The more teeth there are, the less material each tooth removes and the cleaner the cut — at the cost of a slower feed.

Bosch Expert for Multi Material 305 × 30, 96T

Ripping solid timber fast

Few teeth clear the sawdust better and cut faster with the grain, with a rougher finish you clean up afterwards.

S&S-Shop HM 190 × 30 mm, 40T

For whom, within saw blades

Breaking down solid timber
A 24 or 30 tooth blade at 250 mm (9.84 in) diameter cuts fast and runs cool. It is the production blade.
Melamine panels
A 60 tooth blade or more, with trapezoidal teeth, avoids tearing the coating. It is the only case where fineness is absolutely paramount.
General use
A 40 tooth blade does both correctly and excels at neither. It is a reasonable compromise when you do not want to change blades.

What each advantage costs, on saw blades

Tooth count against feed rate
Many teeth give a clean cut and require a slow feed, at the risk of burning. Few teeth feed fast and leave an edge to clean up.
Thin kerf against rigidity
A thin-kerf blade wastes less material and demands less power; it vibrates more and copes badly with a machine that lacks rigidity.
Carbide against steel
Carbide lasts far longer and can be re-sharpened by a specialist; steel costs little and dulls fast. On abrasive panel material, carbide is the only sensible choice.

Before buying saw blades

How many teeth for what use?

Few teeth for ripping with the grain, many for crosscutting and for panels. At 250 mm (9.84 in) diameter: 24 to 30 teeth for breaking down, 60 to 80 for melamine.

Does the bore have to be exact?

Absolutely. A correctly sized reduction bush is acceptable; play is never acceptable: the blade runs off-center and the run-out becomes dangerous.

What does negative rake mean?

The teeth lean backwards: the blade pulls the workpiece less. That is what a sliding mitre saw and aluminum need.

Can a carbide blade be sharpened?

Yes, by a specialist, several times. It is markedly cheaper than a new blade as long as there is material left on the tips.

Why does my blade burn the wood?

A dull blade, too slow a feed, or a blade not parallel to the fence. All three give the same symptom and the third is the most dangerous.

Should a blade be cleaned?

Resin builds up between the teeth and makes the blade run hot as if it were dull. A resin cleaner often gives it a second life.

Is a universal blade worth it?

For occasional use, yes. As soon as you cut regularly, two specialized blades cost barely more and markedly change the result.

Does the kerf width matter?

Yes, twice over: it decides the material lost in a rip and the power needed to feed. A thin kerf saves wood but wants a stiffer blade.

What to remember about saw blades

A blade is chosen on the diameter the machine imposes, the exact bore, and the tooth count according to the cut. Carbide becomes necessary as soon as panel material is involved, and a resin-clogged blade behaves exactly like a worn one.

A quick look at saw blades

  • Intended machines: 4 to 10 in mitre saws, on 3 of the 11 models.

Saw blades in one table

A column holds only if four machines in five publish the figure. Below that, it would compare what the manuals left out.
