Scheppach OSM100 vs Triton 949538

More motor, or a complete set of drums?

Both oscillate, both do the one job a belt sander and a disc sander cannot. The Triton has 200 more watts; the Scheppach lists six sleeves, six drums and matching table inserts. At €12 apart, what is in the box decides it.

A tick marks the better answer on that line only. Counting ticks does not decide the page — the two verdicts below do, because these machines answer different questions.

Which of the two, for which shop

Buy the OSM100

Buy the Scheppach unless you have confirmed what the Triton ships with. Six drums with matching table inserts is a complete machine; a machine with one drum needs an accessory order before it does the job.

Buy the 949538

Buy the Triton if bench space is tight and you have checked the contents. 650 W is real headroom on hardwood and aggressive grits, and the compact footprint is worth something on a crowded bench.

What comes up most often

Why do matching table inserts matter?

Each drum diameter needs its own table opening. With too large a gap, the workpiece overhangs it and dips at the start of the cut — which is exactly the fault a spindle sander is bought to avoid. Machines that ship one insert for all drums produce it routinely.

What does oscillation actually change?

A sleeve that only spins wears in one narrow band and burnishes the timber there. One that also moves up and down spreads the wear over its whole length, runs cooler, clogs later and leaves no ring. It multiplies the life of the consumable.
