Buy the Scheppach for a garage or a shed. Nearly a metre of table with the extension out is a different machine from a compact saw with a 500 mm top, whatever the two cut on paper — and the stand is included.
Buy the Bosch if the saw goes in a van. It is light enough for one person, the self-closing guard is the kind that is still fitted in year three, and its 30 mm arbor takes European blades without a reducer.
Because a workpiece needs support before the blade, at the blade and after it. When the table does not provide it, the operator does — by hand, near a spinning blade. Table area is a safety specification as much as an accuracy one.
It is worth more than it sounds. Guards get removed for a specific cut, and awkward ones stay off. A guard that drops back into place on its own is still fitted a year later, which makes the saw meaningfully safer than one with better paper specifications and a guard in a drawer.
