Makita SP6000J vs Festool TS 55 F-Plus Master Edition

Are you buying a saw, or joining a system?

On the cut itself these two are close. On everything around the cut — rails, connectors, guides, storage, extraction — they are not, and that is where the price difference lives. This is a ten-year decision disguised as a purchase.

A tick marks the better answer on that line only. Counting ticks does not decide the page — the two verdicts below do, because these machines answer different questions.

Which of the two, for which shop

Buy the SP6000J

Buy the Makita if you need a track saw. It cuts sheet goods to the same standard for half the money, and its rail is shared with a wide range of the brand's other machines — so the accessory is not stranded later.

Buy the TS 55 F-Plus Master Edition

Buy the Festool if you will genuinely use the system. Three rails, parallel guides, connectors and integrated extraction over five years is value the price comparison does not show — and if you will buy one rail and stop, it is not.

What comes up most often

Are rails interchangeable between brands?

Not reliably. The rib the saw rides on differs in width and profile, and a saw running on a rail it was not cut for gives a chipped edge on the good face. Treat the rail system as the thing you are buying.

What is the splinter strip and why does it matter?

The rubber edge on the rail that supports the fibers right at the cut line. It is a consumable, and it must be trimmed by the saw that will use it, before the first real cut — a strip cut by a different saw sits in the wrong place.
