  • Template and both cutters are matched, so no bearing arithmetic is needed
  • A metric template, which pairs with metric bearings rather than imperial ones
  • 18 mm (0.71 in) maximum stock thickness rules out heavier carcase work

Best for: Through dovetails and finger joints in drawer-sized stock up to 18 mm (0.71 in) thick

Every figure below is a manufacturer specification read off the listing itself. The judgments are ours.

What the specification says

A metric template with 14 fingers, 159 × 178.5 × 10 mm (6.26 × 7.03 × 0.39 in) and about 230 g (8.1 oz), taking stock up to 18 mm (0.71 in) thick and 154 mm (6.06 in) wide. Supplied with a dovetail cutter of Ø 12.7 mm (0.50 in), 19.05 mm (0.75 in) cutting length, 8° angle, two flutes, 8 mm (0.31 in) shank and a 16 mm (0.63 in) bearing; and a flush trim cutter of Ø 12 mm (0.47 in), 19 mm (0.75 in) cutting length, two flutes, 8 mm (0.31 in) shank and a 12 mm (0.47 in) bearing. Part number 09052.

The shank is not a detail

Six millimeter, eight millimeter, quarter inch and half inch shanks are all in circulation, and none of them is interchangeable. A quarter inch shank dropped into an 8 mm (0.31 in) collet appears to seat, grips on almost nothing, and is thrown at working speed. Check the collet that is actually in the router rather than the model name — plenty of routers ship with two, and only one of them is fitted.

Two numbers decide everything

Eighteen millimeters of thickness and 154 mm (6.06 in) of width are the working envelope. A standard drawer side falls comfortably inside both; a carcase in 22 mm stock does not, and no adjustment on the jig will change that. Measure your intended stock before ordering rather than after.

What comes up most often

Why buy the template and cutters together?

Because they are a system, not three items. The template guides a bearing of a specific diameter and the cutter cuts a specific angle, and the geometry of the joint falls out of both. Mixing an imperial cutter with a metric template gives joints that are close and will not close, and diagnosing that after the fact costs more than the set does.

What happens above 154 mm (6.06 in) wide?

You add another template. The manufacturer states the width is extendable by using additional templates side by side, which is how these jigs handle a deeper drawer side. It works, and it introduces an alignment step between the two — which is the point at which a wider single template starts to look worth the money.
