The best woodworking jigs and guides for 2026

A jig turns a skill into a setting. We compare dovetail jigs, dowelling jigs, circle cutters, featherboards and rail accessories — and are clear about which of them you should build in an afternoon rather than buy.

What we recommend

  1. Self-centering dowelling jig, product photograph

Treki Self-centring dowelling jig, 6/8/10 mm

Eleven euros against three hundred for a biscuit jointer — and the joint is stronger. What you give up is speed.

    Dowel sizes
    6, 8 and 10 mm (0.39 in)
    Type
    Self-centering
    Availability
No EAN published — other markets could not be verified
    Amazon reference
    B0DY756QRQ
    • A dowel resists racking, which a biscuit does not
    • Self-centering, so the hole lands on the middle of the edge without measuring
    • No EAN, so other markets could not be verified

Best for: Occasional joinery where the joint has to carry load and speed does not matter

  2. ENT dovetail routing template with two router cutters, product photograph

ENT 09052 dovetail template with two-cutter set

Template and cutters bought together, which is the only way this category works — and two numbers decide whether it can make your drawer.

    Fingers
    14
    Maximum stock thickness
    18 mm (0.71 in)
    Maximum stock width
154 mm (6.06 in), extendable with further templates

    Dovetail cutter
    Ø 12.7 mm (0.50 in), 19.05 mm (0.75 in) cut, 8°, 2 flutes, 8 mm (0.31 in) shank, 16 mm (0.63 in) bearing
    Flush trim cutter
    Ø 12 mm (0.47 in), 19 mm (0.75 in) cut, 2 flutes, 8 mm (0.31 in) shank, 12 mm (0.47 in) bearing
    Part number
    09052
    Amazon reference
    B0BF1CN49Y (identical on 5 markets)
    EAN
    4040932090522
    • Template and both cutters are matched, so no bearing arithmetic is needed
    • A metric template, which pairs with metric bearings rather than imperial ones
    • 18 mm (0.71 in) maximum stock thickness rules out heavier carcase work

Best for: Through dovetails and finger joints in drawer-sized stock up to 18 mm (0.71 in) thick

  3. Router circle cutting jig with millimeter scale, product photograph

    MaKoen POF1214 circle cutting jig

A router cuts a perfect circle or nothing at all. This is the arm that decides which — provided it bolts to your base.

23 mm (0.91 in) to 544 mm (21.4 in), cutter center to pin center
    Center pin
    Ø 6 mm (0.24 in)
    Accuracy

    • A radius range from 23 mm (0.91 in) to 544 mm (21.4 in) covers table tops and speaker cut-outs alike
    • Two engraved scales with an arrow showing which one is live
    • The mounting holes fit three named Bosch routers and nothing else

Best for: Round table tops, clock faces and speaker cut-outs on a Bosch plunge router

  4. Aluminum roller featherboard with polyurethane wheels, product photograph

Fyeme Roller featherboard for 30 and 45 mm T-track

Rollers instead of plastic fingers: the same pressure against the fence with far less drag on the feed.

    Body
    Anodized aluminum alloy
    Rollers
    Polyurethane, bearing mounted
    Pressure
    Adjustable by a brass knob
    Fits
    3/4 × 3/8 inch mitre slots, and 30 mm (1.18 in) and 45 mm (1.77 in) T-track
    Mounting
    Horizontal or vertical
    Part number
    200039876-17
    Availability
No EAN published — other markets could not be verified

    B0CSKFRZFC
    • Bearing rollers cut the friction that makes a plastic featherboard hard to feed against
    • Adjustable pressure, so the same board suits thin stock and thick
    • The slot dimensions quoted are the imperial 3/4 × 3/8 inch standard — measure your own slot

Best for: Narrow rips on a table saw and repeated passes on a router table

For whom, within jigs & guides

Repeated joints
A jig turns a delicate operation into a repeatable movement. That is where it gains most: the tenth piece is as good as the first.
Copying parts
A template and a flush-trim bit let you reproduce a shape identically as many times as needed, with no marking out.
Bringing the blade close without the fingers
Many jigs exist first of all to keep hands away from the blade — push sticks, sleds, crosscut carriages. It is their most underrated function.

What each advantage costs, on jigs & guides

Bought against home-made
A shop-bought jig is accurate immediately and freezes a method; a home-made jig fits the project exactly and takes time to perfect.
A jig for every cut, or one cut done right
Adjustable jigs cover many cases with a setting to redo each time. A dedicated jig is placed and works.
Accuracy against setup time
The more accurate a jig, the longer its initial setting. On a one-off piece, marking out by hand is often faster.

Before buying jigs & guides

When does a jig pay for itself?

From the third or fourth identical piece, counting the time to make it. On a one-off, it costs more than it returns.

What should a jig be made from?

Good-quality MDF or plywood: stable, easy to machine, and durable enough for dozens of uses.

How do I guarantee a home-made jig's accuracy?

Make it on the machine that will use it, and test it on offcuts before the real piece. A jig is adjusted, not calculated.

Is a table-saw sled useful?

It is probably the accessory that most improves a table saw's accuracy and safety. It can be built in an afternoon.

Are dovetail jigs worth their price?

For anyone doing them regularly, yes: they turn a long joint into a few minutes' work. For a one-off project, cutting by hand costs less.

Do I need a jig per thickness?

Adjustable models avoid that, at the cost of a setting to verify at each change. Fixed jigs are safer and multiply.

How should jigs be stored?

Flat and dry, with the setting and the project written on them. A warped jig, or one whose use you have forgotten, is no longer any use.

Does a jig replace learning the technique?

It makes the result repeatable, not the movement safe: you still need to know which way to feed and where the hands are. A jig removes positioning error, not method error.

What to remember about jigs & guides

A jig pays from the third identical piece, and many exist first of all to keep hands away from the blade. Make them on the machine that will use them, test on offcuts, and write the setting on them.

A quick look at jigs & guides

Jigs & guides, side by side

There is no table here, and the reason is in the listings. The figure published most often across these 4 products is availability, given by 3 of them — short of the four in five a column needs to compare rather than to display gaps. Each product page says what its own maker published.

    Where the data is read

Specifications: manufacturer sheets for woodworking machines and the matching Amazon product pages. Prices and availability: Keepa.
