  • A dowel resists racking, which a biscuit does not
  • Self-centering, so the hole lands on the middle of the edge without measuring
  • No EAN, so other markets could not be verified

Best for: Occasional joinery where the joint has to carry load and speed does not matter

Every figure below is a manufacturer specification read off the listing itself. The judgments are ours.

What the specification says

A self-centering dowelling jig for 6, 8 and 10 mm (0.39 in) dowels. No EAN on the listing.

The unforgiving part

A dowel joint has no slack. Two holes that are a degree out of parallel meet in the middle and the joint will not close, and there is no adjustment afterwards — which is exactly what a biscuit slot allows and a dowel hole does not.

That is the trade for the extra strength, and it is why a jig rather than a freehand drill is not optional here.

What comes up most often

Dowels or biscuits?

Dowels are stronger — a round dowel in a snug hole resists racking in every direction, where a flat biscuit mainly aligns. Biscuits are far faster and far more forgiving of a slightly wrong angle. For a bookcase that will be screwed to a wall, biscuits; for a frame that has to stand up on its own, dowels.

Why does self-centering matter?

Because the alternative is measuring the middle of every edge and marking it, on every piece. A self-centering jig clamps on and finds the center mechanically, which removes the most common source of misaligned dowel joints.
