What the specification says

A 100 mm (3.94 in) sliding blast gate. No EAN is published on this listing.

The rule of one gate

Fit a gate at every branch, keep them all shut, and open only the one feeding the machine that is running. It is the difference between a ducted system that extracts and one that hisses.

What comes up most often

Why can I not just leave all the branches open?

Because air takes the easiest path. An open branch to an idle machine is a wide-open hole, and the extractor draws almost all its air through that rather than through the machine you are using. One gate open at a time is not a refinement — it is what makes the system work at all.

Are cheap gates worth it?

They do the job. What you get for more money is a better seal and a slide that does not jam with dust in the track. On a two-machine shop the cheap ones are fine; on a six-branch system the leakage adds up.
