Alternate set · 3 TPI
Timber Wolf 93-1/2 × 3/8 in, 3 TPI, alternate set
Three teeth to the inch and an alternate set, with a stated working range of six to eight inches — on three sentences.
Every figure below names its source. Each one is a manufacturer
specification read off the listing itself. The judgments are ours.
Six to eight inches
The only depth range published on either half of this shelf.
Every other listing here names a saw, a length or a trade. This one names the
thickness of timber it is meant to go through, which is the figure a resaw buyer
actually has in hand.
It is the best sentence on the page, and the page has three.
Three teeth to the inch, on three eighths of an inch
An unusual pairing, and a deliberate one.
Coarse pitch belongs with deep cuts, because the gullets carry sawdust a long
way. Wide bands belong with deep cuts, because they resist deflection.
This takes the first and not the second: a deep-cutting pitch on a band narrow
enough to turn a curve. At eight inches of stock there are roughly
twenty-four teeth in the cut, each taking a large bite on a narrow band.
That asks a great deal of the tension and of the guides, and no thickness is
published to judge it by.
Alternate set
The only one on this shelf, and it is in the title.
Every tooth leans, left then right, so none runs down the middle of the kerf to
clear it — the chip goes sideways instead. Wide kerf, quick cut, coarse face.
In a furniture shop breaking down rough stock that is exactly right. The AYAO
band here names a raker set, where every third tooth stays straight: slower,
flatter, and the one to use if the face is going near a glue line.
Applications are endless
The second of three published features, in full.
The other two carry the furniture industry and the six-to-eight-inch range. One
of those is the rarest figure on this shelf.
A three-sentence listing with one rare number and one empty line is still a thin
page. All three sentences are above.
Length first, everything else second
A band saw blade is a closed loop, and the loop has one length.
Too short and it will not reach round both wheels. Too long and the tension
spring runs out of travel before the band is tight. There is no adjustment and
no adapter: the number stamped on the saw is the number to buy.
Every listing on this shelf says so in its own words, and three of them say it
twice. It is the only compatibility question that cannot be worked around.
