Metabo KGS 216 M review

The cheapest saw on this page that is sold under one reference on all six Amazon stores — and the one we would put in a small workshop.

The end of it The safest recommendation on this page for a European reader, and the one to avoid in the United States.

Every figure is a manufacturer specification, read off the listing itself, and the judgments are ours — drawn from how the specification behaves in this class of machine and from what long-term owners consistently report. Where a figure is missing, we say so rather than fill it in.

What the specification says

216 mm (8.50 in) blade with a slide function. Metabo publishes little else on this listing — no crosscut width, no cut height — which is a recurring frustration in this category and not specific to this maker.

Why it is still the recommendation

Two reasons, and neither is on the spec sheet.

The first is availability. One reference, one EAN, resolving on the German, French, Italian, Spanish, British and American stores. Across the machines we have checked so far, that uniformity is rare, and on a network that serves readers in six countries it is worth a great deal.

The second is what happens in year eight. Metabo sells parts, and it sells them for a long time. A mitre saw is a machine whose brushes, belt and blade guard eventually need replacing, and the difference between a brand that supplies those and one that does not is the difference between a repair and a landfill.

Shadow line or laser

A laser projects a red line near the cut. A shadow line puts an LED behind the blade and lets the blade cast its own shadow onto the workpiece. The difference is not cosmetic: a laser is a separate part aimed at where the blade is supposed to be, so it needs calibration and it drifts; a shadow is cast by the blade itself, so it shows the actual kerf, it moves when you change the blade, and there is nothing to align. On a saw you will own for a decade, that is the feature worth paying for.

This saw has neither — at €195 that is expected. The saws further down this page that do have a shadow line cost roughly twice as much, and it is the single clearest reason for the gap.

The price spread

About €195 in Germany, €211 in France, €217 in Spain, €226 in Italy, €260 in Britain — and €687 in the United States. The last figure is an importer’s price and should be read as “not sold here”.

The good side, and the catch

Strengths

  • Available on all six markets we checked, under one reference and one EAN
  • Metabo's spares network is genuinely long-lived

Compromises

  • The listing publishes almost no dimensional specification
  • The American price is an importer's, roughly three times the German one
  • No shadow line at this price

What comes up most often

Why does uniform availability matter?

Because this page exists in five languages and the reader could be in any of six countries. A product with one reference everywhere means the page you are reading describes the machine you will land on, whichever store you buy from. Most machines on this site do not manage that.

Should an American reader buy it?

No. The reference resolves on amazon.com, but at roughly three times the German price — that is an import listing, not local distribution, and there is no local service behind it.
