What the specification says

A push block, a push stick and a featherboard, part number 7334, for table saws and router tables.

Where kickback comes from

A rip cut pinches when the offcut closes on the back of the blade, and the blade throws it back towards the operator at speed. Three things prevent it: a riving knife holding the kerf open, a fence that stays parallel, and a featherboard keeping the work against the fence and moving in one direction only.

Two of the three are on the machine. This is the third, and it costs €27.

What comes up most often

What does a featherboard do besides keep fingers away?

It presses the workpiece against the fence with sprung fingers angled so the work can move forward but not backward. That means a consistent distance from the fence for the whole cut — a better rip — and it resists kickback, because the board cannot travel back towards you.

Is it normal to cut into a push block?

Entirely. A push block is sacrificial by design: it holds the work down and forward past the blade, and it takes the cut instead of your hand. A block with saw marks in it has done its job.
