The end of it A specialist that happens to be cheap. On timber alone, the Scheppach cuts wider for less.
Every figure is a manufacturer specification, read off the
listing itself, and the judgments are ours — drawn from how the
specification behaves in this class of machine and from what long-term
owners consistently report. Where a figure is missing, we say so rather
than fill it in.
What the specification says
210 mm (8.27 in) blade, 1,500 W, 230 mm (9.06 in) of slide capacity, and a carbide-tipped
multi-material blade rated for wood, metal and plastic.
Who this is for
Renovation rather than furniture. On a site where the next cut might be a
softwood stud, a length of steel angle or a plastic conduit, one saw that does
all three without a blade change is worth real time. In a workshop that only
sees timber, the same money buys more crosscut width elsewhere.
The compromise, stated plainly
A tooth geometry that survives mild steel is not the geometry that leaves a
clean shoulder on oak. The cut is acceptable, not fine. Buy a dedicated
negative-rake wood blade — see our saw blade
hub for why the rake angle matters on a chop saw specifically — and keep the
multi-material blade for the metal days.
One hazard worth stating
Hot steel chips into an extractor full of sawdust is a genuinely bad
combination. Disconnect the extraction for metal cuts and sweep up instead.

What comes up most often
Does it really cut steel?
Yes — that is the company's founding trick, and it works dry, without coolant and without the shower of sparks an abrasive chop saw produces. Keep the supplied blade for metal and fit a proper wood blade for wood; the saw is better at both jobs that way.
Is 230 mm (9.06 in) of crosscut too narrow?
For skirting, architrave and stud, no. For a 300 mm (11.8 in) floorboard or a shelf, yes — and no technique gets round it. Measure the widest thing you cut regularly before choosing on price.
